DIY : cloud mobile

Since we love clouds so much, I thought I would share the cloud mobile I made for Mima's room.
You will need:
Felt for cloud and raindrops, 2 of each (front and back)
Sewing scissors
Sewing machine
Pins
Embroidery thread for eyes and mouth
Thread to sew
Thread for hanging
Needle

Here is a template if you need it. You will need to print it A3.

1. First cut all your cloud and raindrop pieces.

2. Use chalk to draw on the clouds face, then embroider the eyes and mouth.
3. Pin the two cloud pieces together, front and back, right sides facing out.

4. Sew and stuff.
5. Sew up the hole, I also did this using a sewing machine.

6. Repeat with each raindrop.
7. Lay out the cloud and raindrops on the floor.

8. Then connect each raindrop to the cloud using thread.
9. Hang and enjoy.

panda cookie cutters!

Moo's grandma Mama Su has just been to up to stay for a few days. She came bearing these super cute Panda cookie cutters for Moo, so we had to set aside an afternoon to making Panda cookies.

They came with instructions and recipe, however we couldn't read them so we made up our own recipe. We worked out we needed a recipe that didn't rise and spread to much as it would distort the cookies.

Basic Cookies
Ingredients:
50g soften butter
70g sugar
1 egg yoke
3 tsp milk
150g plain flour
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp cocoa
2 tsp hot water

Method:
1. Cream butter and sugar til pale and creamy. Add egg yolk and mix well.
2 Add in the milk mix well.
3. Divide the cookie mixture into thirds.  for lemon cookies - 1 tsp lemon juice
for cocoa cookies - add 1 Tbsp cocoa dissolved in 2tsp hot water
4. Gradually add seived flour, 50g to the lemon mixture and 100g to the cocoa mixture. Mix well.

5. Roll out 3mm thin. Cut the faces and details from the lemon cookies and panda bodies from the cocoa cookies and piece together.

Bake in preheated oven at 180°c for 12-15mins.

Makes 20 little cookies, simple and they don't need to be iced as they're so cute they won't last long.

or if you really wanted to you could cookie the layers separately and stick together with a little icing (but seems like a lot more work to me).

DIY : cat mask

We have had a few birthdays for Mima's friends lately and I wanted a fun homemade gift to include in their present. Since Mima's favourite animal is a cat I decided cat masks would be perfect.
Below are some basic instructions...
Here is a template, you will need to size it and print it.

I made mine out of felt but you could also use card, cut all the pieces.

Then use a hot glue gun to glue all the pieces together.

I created shape with the ears by folding them back and glueing them in place.

To finish add some elastic. Cut small holes, one either side of the face about 0.5cm in from the edge of the checks. Thread black elastic through the holes and tie them in place.
So cute!

homemade face scrub : coconut oil

With winter upon us I had been feeling the need to have really good face exfoliant to rid myself of dry skin. So late one night I decided to investigate recipes for homemade face scrub.
This is what I came up with, which is an incredibly simple homemade face scrub.

2 parts coconut oil
2 parts baking soda
1 part manuka honey
Mix and store in an air tight container.

Apply a small amount to face and lips with fingertips, rinse several times with warm water and facecloth.

I only make as much as I need at the time, so 1 part  = 1tsp would be enough for a couple of scrubs. But you could make in large quantities and store in the fridge. I added manuka honey due it's natural healing properties. It is really fine exfoliant which feels really nice. I believe it is suitable for sensitive skin.

Also great for hands and feet.

we are one

Mima and Moo is now one.
We decided to celebrate with cake, bubbles and balloons.
On reflection our first year has been great, but it is just the start! This second year is going to be even better, we will keep you posted x
